Science park Arenberg - ICT 3 & 4

In the Arenberg Research Park, Interleuven plans the creation of two new office buildings, referred to as ‘ICT 3&4’, as an extension to the recently built ‘ICT 1&2’ office buildings.

Where all kinds of scientific companies will be able to hire office space. During the design of ICT 3 and 4, special attention was paid to the very energy efficient character of the buildings and systems. Architects Poponcini and Lootens provided for a performing outer façade layer, designed to keep both cold and solar heat to a maximum extent outside the building, in order to limit as much as possible energy consumption for cooling and heating. Comfort cooling and heating in these buildings will be performed by means of concrete core activation. By using the visible concrete mass, we can realize pleasant thermal comfort in an energy efficient manner. In the energy field, use is also made of Borehole Thermal Energy Storage (BTES) for heat and cold production, earth-air heat exchangers for conditioning of the hygienic ventilation flow, rainwater recovery, etc. An extensive electrical infrastructure under the raised floor guarantees furthermore maximum flexibility for any future renters.

Ingenium was also designated as the Energy Performance (EPB) reporter for this project.
