Next to the existing rectory and the Vooruit building, the Gent University is planning a new construction of some 12,000 m², which will provide space for a number of offices, labs, administration, meeting facilities and student-linked services.
Also two auditoria, seating respectively 600 and 400 persons, will be provided. These two auditoria will be partitioned by a 30-ton upward-moving wall that will allow using both rooms as a common auditorium in raised position. A 50-m illuminated news trailer at the building front allows sharing messages with the city. Besides these very technical components, Ingenium also designed all technical systems (HVAC, electrical circuitry, sanitary facilities, car park ventilation and elevators).
For design of the HVAC installations, considerable attention was paid to rational energy consumption through natural ventilation and night-time venting. The auditoria will be provided with adiabatic cooling.
