KULeuven needed a second data centre for reasons of redundancy. Being limited by the height of the premises, an in row cooling system is designed. Part of the IT-equipement is contained in racks following the cold/hot aisle containment principle.
The emergency power supply is based on a generator and UPS and is distributed towards the racks by means of a busbar system. Racks are equipped with a switched or metered PDU to be able to execute an external cold restart.
A monitoring system is also provided to control the operation of the technical installations and the climate conditions inside the datacenter. The readings of the sensors and PDU’s helps to do preventive monitoring of the datacenter operations.
