BlueApp - University of Antwerp - Chemistry

The University of Antwerp (UA) wishes to erect a new building, under the name of Blue_App, to be devoted to scientific and technical research into sustainable chemistry.

This project is part of the Blue Gate Antwerp project to revitalize this brownfield site. The future lab building will need to meet the stringent site conditions, the site image quality plan and, above all, achieve a BREEAM New Construction Excellent certificate.

BlueApp is an open innovation hub and a pre-incubator for sustainable chemistry. It will be built on the Blue Gate Antwerp site next to the Bluechem incubator for sustainable chemistry.
BlueApp will offer a range of technologies including (bio)process engineering, chemical, plasma and photo-catalysis, (semi-)pilot scale chemical synthesis, flow chemistry, membrane technology, innovative water treatment / nutrients recovery, biomass conversion, microbial production and downstream processing, microbiology and algae cultivation.
Obviously the design for BlueApp needs to offer sufficient flexibility for the ad hoc testing of various technological demonstration installations. Flexibility and cost-efficiency are two important design parameters, without compromising on the safety requirements that apply to a building of this kind. Blue_App will be a sustainable building and will at least meet the BGAD (Blue Gate Antwerp Development) requirements for sustainability, like the pursuit of CO2 neutrality and a BREEAM New Construction, level Excellent, certificate.
Ingenium will be responsible for designing and monitoring the technical installations, for advising and reporting on energy performance and indoor climate, for monitoring the BREAAM process, and for the entire commissioning process.
