HEAT STRATEGY MECHELEN

Ingenium and Levuur are jointly drawing up a vision and strategy for heat transition for the entire territory of the city of Mechelen.

We are drawing up various maps showing the current and future heat demand, the renovation potential and the potential heat supply (residual heat from industry, water treatment, surface water, sewage, shallow geothermal energy, solar thermal energy...) and developing a strategic vision for the transition at city and district level. Through participation, the necessary stakeholders (the various city services, Province of Antwerp, Fluvius, intermunicipal utility companies, energy cooperatives, project developers, Flemish Government, potential heat producers, etc.) are widely involved and a heat coalition is built that can take the lead in realising the vision.

Moreover, we zoom in on the practical elaboration of a number of sub-zones, such as business park Mechelen-Zuid, the Mechelse Vesten and the large mixed planned brownfield development of the Ragheno district.
In addition, we elaborate a framework with and for the city departments to also actively use the created maps in urban policy.
